"‘Nature makes no aesthetic mistakes’, is a guiding principle of my pinch-formed vessels. My process is about growth, transitions and flow."

Wesley Brown

State College, PA

Artist Statement:

"Through clay vessels, I explore identity by combining wheel-thrown and hand-built forms. Contrasting surfaces retain their histories, while reclaimed fragments unify the piece into a cohesive, functional whole."

Ben Carter

Howell, NJ

Artist Statement:

"By blending floral motifs used in Appalachian quilting with the decorative language of historical ceramics, I work to create new hybrid patterns that enliven the surfaces of my terracotta ceramics."

Adam Chau

Norwalk, CT

Artist Statement:

"Working primarily in blue-and-white, I create works that link the past to the present. I am fascinated with how the fast-paced nature of 21st Century culture can collide with pottery."

Autumn Cipala

Thomaston, ME

Website//Instagram//Facebook

Artist Statement:

"I balance curves, volume, and proportion to create complex yet clean forms that invite one to slow down and notice the subtleties of form, surface, and function. Inspiration is found in the luminosity of porcelain, the beauty of my coastal surroundings, and historical ceramics.”

Michael Connelly

Phoenixville, PA

Website//Instagram//Facebook

Artist Statement:

"I am guided in my project by a passion for making objects that are relevant to my contemporaries and by a deep curiosity about American history through pottery."

Sanam Emami

Fort Collins, CO

Website // Instagram

Artist Statement:

“My work is a bridge between historical pots created along the ancient trading routes of the silk road that spanned the Asian continent and my practice as a studio potter in the 21st century living and working in the Mountain West of the United States.

The clay pieces hold an exploration of time and space, an inquiry into living between cultures, a search for something just out of reach.”

Katie Fee

Somerville, MA

Website//Instagram

Artist Statement:

"Attention to the cycles of weather, tectonics, life, and labor that shape the earth define my studio process and pottery. Handmade pots remind us of the ground beneath our feet and the geologic underpinnings of reality: integral to our daily rituals, and transcendent of them."

Daniel Garver

Spruce Pine, NC

Website//Instagram

Artist Statement:

"In my work I'm striving for elements that are bold, bright, refined, repetitive. Work that is approachable and understandable by way of its most essential qualities."

Seth Green

Fort Wayne, IN

Website//Instagram//Facebook

Artist Statement:

"Inspired by sacred architectural silhouettes and ceremonial metalwork, my wheel-thrown vessels feature soaring silhouettes and metalwork-inspired surfaces. These ascendant forms symbolize the potential for transcendence and strength of purpose."

Tyler Gulden

Walpole, ME

Website//Instagram//Facebook

Artist Statement:

"Attention to function plays a critical role in creating wares to be used in conjunction with the preparation, serving and consumption of food and drink. That creative process relies on generating intuitive connections between the clay and the maker."

Hiroe Hanazono

Philadelphia, PA

Website // Instagram

Artist Statement:

“Food is at the heart of my work. Influenced by my Japanese upbringing and shared meal rituals, I create tableware with simple, intentional forms and muted surfaces that support connection through food and everyday rituals.”

Nicholas Joerling

Bakersville, NC

Website//Instagram

Artist Statement:

"I like the blue collar nature of pots, doing the everyday work of carrying, containing, delivering; that pots are most active and appreciated in close proximity to our bodies."

Shikha Joshi

Round Rock, TX

Website//Instagram

Artist Statement:

"Nature informs my work. Colors and textures of rocks, tree bark, water bodies and algae are some of the things that inspire me and I strive to emulate those surfaces on my pots within the constraints of an electric kiln."

Ashton Keen

Allston, MA

Instagram

Artist Statement:

"Using a dark red clay adorned with a subtle slip surface, I strive to emphasize a sense of history, revealing the raw beauty of the vessel underneath. Finishing the work in atmospheric kilns gives each piece a soft simple exterior, enhancing what already exists in the pot."

Jim Lawton

Bluffton, SC

Website//Instagram//Facebook

Artist Statement:

"It is not incongruent to me that clay and carnal bodies share certain elemental connections: pottery and sculpture possessing the ability to describe the human condition while simultaneously being a part of it."

David MacDonald

Syracuse, NY

Website

Artist Statement:

The vessel is an important human artifact that transcends generations and cultures. I have chosen the vessel as my primary vehicle of expression because of its universality. The inspiration for my work is the celebration of my combined Western and African heritages.

Lindsay Oesterritter

Manassas, VA

Website // Instagram // Facebook

Artist Statement:

“I work in an intentionally straightforward manner, choosing the clay and combination of processes for the marks that will be left revealing the qualities of the material and tell a visual story.”

Aysha Peltz

Whitingham, VT

Website//Instagram//Facebook

Artist Statement:

"I believe most good pots, whether functional or not, conjure up associations beyond practical use. The forms I make reference utility and stir emotions; their familiarity creates an invitation to explore further. To accentuate their organic, naturalistic qualities, I fire the work under fluid, translucent glazes, which preserves “moments” in the fired clay. My pleasure in making these pieces comes from losing myself in their surfaces and imagining myself in their landscape; a journey in which references become allusions."

Liz Quackenbush

Seattle, WA

Website // Instagram

Artist Statement:

“I’ve been inspired by work as varied as the medieval folk ceramic traditions of Europe, the ancient decorative impulse in Iran, where adornment of everyday life is the impetus. I’ve drawn from them all, in decorative motif and in sheer physicality. Patterns of animal habitats and plant forms inspire some of my surface decoration decisions.”

Kari Radasch

Portland, ME

Website//Instagram//Facebook

Artist Statement:

I aim to make celebratory pottery.  I use color as a metaphor for joy. I pluck nostalgic observations from life and reassemble and reimagine them onto and into my work. I am compelled to make dishes because of the warm, sentimental place they inhabit in our lives.

Don Ridley

Scottsdale, AZ

Website//Instagram//Facebook

Artist Statement:

"In working with these most basic of elements of earth, water, and fire, I endeavor to create a vessel of beauty and quality that will last a lifetime."

Mark Shapiro

Worthington, MA

Website

Artist Statement:

"Making things that are useful and perhaps beautiful is a basic human endeavor. When those things are made of clay it's particularly satisfying--as if something has been made from practically nothing. The transformation from raw earth to pot is magic every time."

Jack Troy

Huntingdon, PA

"My aim in living is to unite my avocation with my vocation as my two eyes make one in sight. - Robert Frost”
